We kicked off the new year with our monthly safety meeting to refocus our team after the holiday break. Safety is always something we highlight and is even part of our company motto. Ed Brown, our Safety Director, had some tips, updates, and videos to kick things off. All these measures are key to keeping employees safe and keeping construction projects running smoothly and on time. The theme of this year is personal responsibility. We want each employee to feel empowered to take their safety seriously. By engaging and participating in daily safety, we will all be safer.
We started by reminding the team about our stop work policy. Every employee is encouraged to put safety first at every site. That means if they see something they think isn’t right, they can implement stop work to check with a supervisor before proceeding. This can save lives when it comes to operating heavy machinery and tools.
When our employees are tuned in 100% of the time to the task at hand and the risks, together we can keep safety top of mind. Ed showed a safety video from the show, Dirty Jobs. It had some very relevant points on the way their team approached safety after a series of accidents. They talk about risk compensation and the impact it can have on a job site. Risk compensation suggests that people typically adjust their behavior in response to the perceived level of risk, becoming more careful where they sense greater risk and less careful if they feel more protected. This is where accidents can happen.
To make things fun, we’re asking employees to share pictures of the reason they take safety seriously on the job. Whether it’s family, friends, coworkers, or a pet, we want to see the reasons they take safety seriously. Because when you’re working with heavy machinery you want to make it home safe every day.
Through our daily, weekly, and monthly safety tips and meetings we’re keeping our team engaged and ready for whatever risks may arise on the job. If you’re looking for a trusted construction company that puts safety first, look no further. Learn about our many services today.
